Previous updates lost, perhaps permanently. In the meantime we have noted that in the Dreamtime issue of the Bach Brandenburg Concerto #5 at the end of the performance, bows, flowers etc., that Richter returns and sits at the piano again ready to play as he looks up at the conductor (then the picture disappears and the credits roll) - which suggests there definately was an encore (with orchestra) - check "comments" section of item #21. We also note and welcome the recent arrival of a russian website devoted to Maestro :"Sviatoslav Richter" - a link has been installed to this splendid new website.....TRA (Sept.2006)..........TRA is extremely grateful to one of it's contributors for indicating the existence of a russian webpage detailing TV broadcasts (State Archive of TV and Radio Broadcasts). Over the coming weeks a fair number of new entries will appear in the Videographies as a result. To get the ball rolling we can now confirm Dvorak's Piano Quintet op.5 (Richter) and another Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto #1 (Gilels, Dubrowsky cond. TV broadcast 1966). We can only hope that these "new" concerts will perhaps be re-broadcasted, or better still, released commercially. We can also add a Mozart Violin Sonata recital with Oleg Kagan and Richter (1982) (which sonatas unclear at this time) and for Gilels in 1983:Schumann's Symphonic Etudes op.13,Brahms - Fantasies op.116, Mendelssohn.....TRA (Oct.2006)..........Entered: "In Memory of Sviatoslav Richter" (Documentary,1997), contains a most tantalizing last 3-4 min. of Chopin Scherzo #3 - one's mind races with the question "is it possibly from a recital of all 4 scherzi?"(check Richter "Sightings").Entered: a recital by Emil Gilels of Mozart/Beethoven/Schumann/Mendelssohn, broadcast in 1973, and a TV programme broadcast in 1986 in dedication to Gilels birthday(1916).....TRA (Nov.2006)..........Entered in December(not a bad month at all!): Richter with Kagan playing 3 Beethoven Sonatas for Violin and Piano, Richter:Debussy Images BK.1,BK.2#1 and Gilels with Kogan playing Beethoven "Kreutzer" Sonata. We note, with pleasure, the arrival of a new website in commemoration of Emil Gilels: www.emil-gilels.com.....TRA (Dec.2006)..........New to the Gilels Videography in celebration of the 90th anniversary of his birth, a russian documentary entitled "Indomitable Gilels", also I have added for Richter the Bach concerto #6 BWV 1057 (please check the "comments" section item #22).....TRA (March,2007)...........TRA has invited Judith Raynor to oversee the Gilels Videography(a task she is eminently qualified for as a foremost scholar in the music and life of EMIL GILELS)- TRA is happy to report her gracious acceptance to volunteer her time in this endevour, many thanks!!.....TRA (April,2007)..........The All-Medtner(1981)entry has been clarified: until now TRA had based it on an audio version of the concert and it was formerly described as a documentary - not so! The audio version exists in parallel and it is in a documentary style (probably made for radio broadcast but based on the television broadcast). Also new, to the Gilels Videography: Liszt's Piano Concerto #1 (1949).....TRA (July,2007)..........Perhaps making a little progress in narrowing down the programme of Mozart Violin Sonatas (current entry #30)given by Sviatoslav Richter and Oleg Kagan - check the comments box.....TRA (Dec.2007)..........Entered: Beethoven - Rondo for Piano and Orchestra (USSR State S.O./Kondrashin)1971.....TRA (July 2008).........Entered: Franck - Piano Quintet (Borodin Quartet) rehearsal. A single camera "amateur" filming.....TRA (Sept.2008)..........Entered: Szymanowski - 6 Muezzin Songs (Galina Pisarenko).....TRA (Nov.2008)..........New entries for Gilels: 1.Play: "White House"(Gilels plays the soundtrack),2.Concert for the 200th Anniverary of the Bolshoi Theatre, 1976 and 3. "Emil Gilels - Life in Music"! marvellous additions! (if only they would materialize!).....TRA (Dec.2008)..........Thanks to Judith Raynor's diligent research you will notice much new added detail in the Gilels Videography. Most notably the discovery of an "Emperor" concerto!! which was to have a public showing in London in March/09. But there are also some other very interesting additions to be found. You may notice that the entry indicating a play ("White House") which had Gilels playing in the audio has been removed since he apparently is not seen playing, we just hear him. In terms of Richter we have 2 new "sightings": in a rehearsal of Beethoven Violin Sonata #2 (Oleg Kagan) and playing part of a Bach French Suite (probably in rehearsal also?).....TRA (March, 2009)..........Several marvellous new entries for Gilels: current #3 & #19 and more detail for #4 - enjoy atleast the hope they still exist and shall one day see the light of day!.....TRA (June 2009)..........Information has come to light that there does indeed exist a complete filming of Mozart's 9th Piano Concerto with Maazel in 1966 (a clip of it's rehearsal can be found in "Richter the Enigma" - a great new entry for the Videography! - we also happily include a new Hindemith Viola Sonata performance with Bashmet(1985?) and adding to the prevailing joy another "Sighting": Brahms Piano Concerto #2 last mov. clip (Georgescu, conductor).....TRA (September 2009).........."Mozart Sonatas played by Oleg Kagan and Sviatoslav Richter" - this is a new, commercial DVD (2009) release out of Russia - filmed in 1983 it is a film document of a "run-through"type rehearsal/performance for cameras in the Pushkin Museum concert hall (no audience). Naturally we eagerly hope for more such commercial DVD issues from Russia.....TRA (Jan.2010)..........New entry for Richter: a russian documentary(2006) detailing the December Nights Festival of Sviatoslav Richter.....TRA (March.2010)..........Some new entries for Richter have been derived from some new information contained in the "Gosteleradiofond" catalogue(from the "Telefond" portion of the catalogue - and thanks to Judith Raynor for alerting me to this and her help in translating!):(1)Schumann-"Warum" (1965).(2)An All-Beethoven piano sonata recital from 1977 (no mention of the sonatas played).(3)A short film, (listed as only 11 min.long) about Richter and his artistic qualities/talents, his painting.(4)An All-Schumann concert in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory with Kagan, Gutman, and the Borodin String Quartet (works not stated) from 1986.(5)from 1989: a programme about the 8th "December Nights Festival" - listed in 2 parts by the Telefond (perhaps because it was broadcast in 2 parts?).....TRA (April 2010
